Children & Families

Children and families are a vital part of our congregation. To ensure that we do our best to provide a sacred and safe environment for all who participate in St. Mark’s programs, we have established a Safe Sanctuary policy. A minimum of two teachers, childcare providers, are required to be in the room with children and have been background-checked. (See sidebar on right of page to download/print a background authorization form.)

Sunday School at St. Mark's UMC

Sunday School and Music

Sunday School

Preschool - 5th Grade, 9:45 - 10:45am

Greeters at the red “Info” umbrella in the courtyard can help you determine the room number for your child’s class.

St. Mark’s is committed to providing quality Christian education programs for our children. Classes for preschool and elementary school ages are held each Sunday morning from 9:45 – 10:45. Your child will be well cared for, loved and taught about God’s goodness and grace. A completed Sunday School registration form must be on file for each child. You can also download one from the sidebar located on the right of this page.

Nursery/Childcare

Infant & Toddler Care: Rooms 15/16

Infant and toddler care is available throughout Sunday mornings. Our childcare workers are CPR-certified. Young children are also welcome in worship, and an infant hospitality room is connected to the sanctuary through a door on the north wall (near the organ). It can be used for changing, feeding or comforting our youngest participants.

Children's Music

Children's Music will be part of the Sunday School classes for the 2016-2017 school year. Carli Ogle, the Children's Sunday School Music Leader, will come to each classroom once a month, and teach music for a portion of the class time. Additionally, all children will have the opportunity to sing in worship a couple of times throughout the year. This new format allows all children to participate in music.

Grace Notes

Grace Notes is St. Mark's youth instrumental ensemble, and is directed by Vince Adkins. Children and youth in grades 4 and above are invited to participate. Grace Notes meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in Room 18.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer in June, we offer a special week of fun and learning for children in the form of Vacation Bible School (VBS). Each year’s theme takes the form of songs, crafts, games and of course, Bible stories. VBS classes are held from 9:00 a.m. – noon and offered for ages 3 years through 6th grade. An extended-day option provides afternoon care for parents who desire it.

Early Childhood Center

The St. Mark’s Early Childhood Center (ECC) began with a preschool program in the mid-1970’s and added childcare in the early ‘90’s to meet the needs of working parents in the local community. Our certified kindergarten class provides parents with the option for smaller class sizes for their young learners. Please visit the ECC’s own website!
