Temperatures Falling—and Rising
October 23, 2020
With doors and windows open, I hear our patio wind chimes this morning. Mornings and evenings are cool enough now that we can open the house. We’re entering our most appealing time of the year here in Tucson, which is great after such a long, dry, difficult summer.
As temperatures outside cool, my sense is that other temperatures are rising as we approach the Nov. 3 election. I’ve been wondering what life will be like once this contentious election is over. No one knows, of course, so I offer this prayer:
Loving God, calm our hearts and spirits and help us in these troubled times. Help us be your loving presence wherever we are. When we are tempted to say or do things that could do harm, touch our shoulders and lead us to turn toward you. Heal those who are sick. Comfort those who mourn. Give strength to those who care for others. Keep our children well and safe. Put your healing power around and in us. Help us select wise leaders, who are ever guided by you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Although we continue to worship online, we are making plans for several outdoor worship services in the near future. Now is the time for you to consider whether you want to attend in-person worship and watch for info about registration and protocols.
