A Few Things

My prayers continue for those affected by the partial government shutdown. I know that as the shutdown continues there are people in our congregation who may find it hard to make ends meet. If you are one of those who find that you need assistance, please know that your pastors have some funds which are designated to help in times of need. Please contact one of us at the emails below, or call us at 297-2062. We can’t fund all your needs, but can offer some help. My earnest prayers and phone calls are being sent to government officials to work together to end this shutdown that is affecting so many people.

We’re already one month into the new year and three weeks into our focus for 2019, What the Bible Really Says About… We began by talking about how the Bible came to be, what’s in it, and how to develop a plan for reading and knowing the Bible.

Now we shift to What’s In a Sacrament? and on Sunday, January 27, we will talk about Why Baptism?  We’ll see the biblical roots of baptism, what it meant for Jesus, and what it means for us today. When you come to worship bring your Worship Guide. If you haven’t received one yet, more will be available this Sunday.

Also this Sunday, stop by Fellowship Hall between 9:15 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for our Multi-site Showcase, an opportunity to talk with members of our Multi-site Team about our plans for One church at Two Locations.

Sunday afternoon (January 27) is the showing and conversation with “Something Like Home” at the Loft Cinema at 3:00 p.m. If you want to ride or carpool, meet at church by 2:15 p.m.

Don’t forget the musical offerings this next week – MacDougal Street West Experience in our Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31 and Koffeehouse for Kairos on Sunday, February 3, at 3:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

On Saturday, February 2, 1:00-3:00 p.m., in Fellowship Hall you have an opportunity to learn about, and pray for, the February 23-26 Special General Conference Session.

Whew—lots happening. Now, here’s a prayer:  Loving God, All that we have and all we are comes from you, by your grace. Give us grateful hearts and generous spirits. As we read and study the Bible, draw us closer to you and your love, reminding us that your love is for all people and all creation. Guide and strengthen us to serve you. In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Blessings, Sharon
