Evangelism and St. Mark’s

What has God called and equipped you to do? We often talk about calling when we talk about how pastors enter ministry, but our scriptures tell us that all are called and God equips all Christians to do the work of the Kingdom in the world.

St. Mark’s is fabulous about missions and service to the world! The Food Bank, Nash Neighbors, ICS, Tucson Refugee Ministry, The Inn, blankets for the hospital, quilts and prayer blankets… the list goes on and on.

But how are we with evangelism? How are we at sharing the Gospel? Francis of Assisi is credited with saying, “Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary.” Sometimes I think that we have taken his words so to heart that we are forgetting to use our words. We preach the gospel when we serve through all our missions opportunities, but we never actually tell people why we serve. Our actions line up beside the work of other service organizations, but we do it because of Jesus. At some point, we must talk about Jesus.

How are you at evangelism? The good news is that evangelism isn’t always standing on a street corner with a sign that tells passersby that we need to repent. It’s not always holding a John 3:16 sign in the endzone of a game.

Meaningful evangelism begins with your story. It begins with witnessing.

Join us Sunday as we talk about witnessing. I’m excited to hear from Kelly Deyoe who will bring our message of hope and encouragement. I hope to see you as the Chancel Choir leads us in song and as our church members lead us in worship. I’m excited to see the church BE the church, using gifts that God has given each of us.

See you Sunday!
Pastor Lynn
