God promises He will never leave us!

 

 

Happy Easter! Oh, wait, that was last Sunday. No, Easter is not just a day, but a whole season, until Pentecost on May 20. Truly, though, Easter is a way of life that shows that we know that Christ is alive, and working in our hearts, our actions and our world.

Easter day, on April 1st, was a glorious celebration day. I know that some of you had trouble parking at church because of so many people coming to worship. I’m sorry that parking was an issue, and want you to know that next year we will better plan for to allow for additional cars. On April 1st, we had 120 more people in worship than on Easter in 2017. Praise God! I’m grateful to everyone who honored Christ by serving and leading that day.

What led us to the celebration of Easter? How did our Christian faith come to be? As we continue our 2018 theme of Connecting to God and One Another, our sermon series which begins on April 8th is Connecting to Our Past… History of Our Faith. I know that for some people history can be a dry and dull thing, but I hope the stories of Scripture and our faith will bring our history alive in the messages of the next few weeks.

We’re going to start with Abraham and Sarah, and the prophet Jeremiah, and God’s promises to them long ago, which are still for us. As I take my thoughts back in time, and read about them, these words from God strike me: “I will set up my covenant with you and your descendants after you in every generation as an enduring covenant. I will be your God and your descendants’ God after you.” Genesis 17:7

“I will put my Instructions within them and engrave them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”   Jeremiah 31:33

Do you see a theme? God promises to never leave us. But God expects something from us – faithfulness to God. What does that mean? That’s what we’ll talk about in worship this Sunday, April 8.
