The Peace of Christ

What’s it like when the peace of Christ settles upon my heart? I’ve been thinking about that in these anxious times, when we’re still uncertain about the COVID-19 virus and its impacts, including economic and other impacts on our lives, church and community. What brings peace, that sense of calm and well-being that God gives us?

This Sunday, May 2, I’m sharing a message on “Letting Go,” the last in the series on “According to Jesus, Love Is …” The Scripture story is about Jesus meeting a rich man who wants to know how to inherit eternal life. Jesus answers his question by telling the man to let go and follow him. Does the man do that? Does he receive the life that Jesus offers, including the peace of heart that comes with that? Come and see.

I remind you that we now have three opportunities for worship. This Sunday, May 2, all services include Holy Communion.

  1. Recorded worship premiering at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday (see links at the end of this message). Have your Communion elements ready this week.
  2. 8 a.m. in-person worship on our west patio. I love outdoor worship! No registration required. Wear a mask. Bring a chair, if you can. Enjoy 40 minute worship. NOTE TIME CHANGE TO 8 A.M. Invite a friend to worship with you.
  3. 10 a.m. in-person worship in the Sanctuary. Wear a mask. Sit distanced. Although Sanctuary worship is full for May 2, register beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 3 for Sunday, May 9, by following the link in a Monday morning email or by calling the church office at (520) 297-2062.

We’re easing back into in-person worship, making sure everything goes smoothly. I’m grateful to all those who are assisting us in doing this.

Letting go – what holds you back from fully experiencing the love and peace that Jesus offers? Come and see.

My prayer focus for today is on upcoming worship and for the suffering of people in India. Gracious God, ease the pain of your people in India. Help us know how to help there, even as we offer prayers for healing and hope. Give all of us your health and strength so that we can serve you, bringing your peace and joy to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blessings,
Sharon

Worship at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays at umcstmarks.org/live-worship; Facebook St. Mark’s UMC Tucson; YouTube UMC St. Mark’s Oro Valley. You can also watch the services at a later time.
