Commitment

What are you committed to?

I’m committed to my health. I pay attention to what I eat, I try to exercise, I don’t overdo it. Well, full disclosure, I don’t do all of those things well every day, but I’m committed to it.

I’m committed to my family. I engage my kids in as much conversation as we can manage (they are teenagers, after all). I spend my evenings with them. I listen to their music and listen to long conversations about their games. I take them to the doctor and buy them shoes that fit.

I’m committed to my husband. I spend time with him. I inquire about his activities and job and feelings. I go to movies he likes and let him have the television remote.

When we are committed to something, we give it our time and our energy. We give it our financial resources and our attention.

Are you committed to St. Mark’s? So many of you are! We had a lovely Ministry Fair on Sunday, celebrating the ways that we are in ministry with one another and our community. We asked for your commitment of your time and resources to continue these ministries as we launch them in the coming year. We had many people stop and chat and sign up to pray for the youth, to help on the finance committee, to take a new class, to explore the intersection of church and society. Thank you!

We have one last step in this fall’s stewardship focus. We need your commitment cards.

This Sunday we will celebrate Commitment Sunday. We have asked you to commit to the work of the church in the coming year by promising your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness. We would like to know your financial commitment so we can make commitments to our staff and our mission partners for the resources they need. We would like to know your commitment so we can gauge our effectiveness as a church family in the coming year.

We invite you to bring your commitment card to church on Sunday, if you haven’t already mailed it in or dropped it off. Show the commitment you have to St. Mark’s by letting us know how you will spend your time and energy and financial resources. We look forward to this next year of ministry with you!

See you soon,
Pastor Lynn
